Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Her first appearances were in television shows as Jackie Harris, a character who was played by her mom in Roseanne, an ABC comedy Roseanne. Her parents, however, did not let her perform until she reached the age of adulthood in fear of the effects stress would have on their daughter. Perry admitted that she wasn't confident in her acting during her high school years and began performing for an opportunity to make new people in Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. After graduating Perry moved back to New York to search for jobs on television, landing a couple of small parts in shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent But her home-sickness caused her to move back to California where she found theatre work. She appeared on Broadway with her mother in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. In the year 2015, she was alongside Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie. The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family. In 2017, she had an appearance on the ABC drama about politics Scandal which starred her father. In the same year, she was cast as a younger counterpart to Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a younger counterpart to Mary Cooper's character. She was able to be cast in the character despite her relationship with the character's family.
