Perry is the father Perry is the child of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry, a director. Her first roles on television were two times on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) in the ABC sitcom Roseanne, the character portrayed by her mother. She was not allowed to begin acting by her parents until she reached the age of adulthood because they were afraid of the pressure it would bring. Perry acknowledged that she was not happy in school and began performing for way to get acquainted with new people in Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, relocated to New York in search of acting roles on television. Perry was able to land small roles in TV shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Then, homelessness drove her to California to pursue theater opportunities. She was in 2013 on stage with The Other Place on Broadway together with her mom. In 2015, Perry appeared with Kevin McKidd alongside her mother in Eugene's Pulitzer Prize winning Drama Anna Christie. It is part of the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is located in West Los Angeles. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family. She had a regular role in the ABC political drama Scandal with her dad. The actress was also featured on The CBS show The Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon as a version younger Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mother. The part was offered by audition despite the fact that there is a connection between her family to the role.
