Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Her first roles on television were two roles for the character Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on The ABC sitcom Roseanne which was played by her mother. However, her parents did not allow her to play until she turned an adult due to the impact stress might have on their daughter. Perry admits that she was not happy in school and began performing for an opportunity to make new individuals in Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. After graduating Perry moved in New York to search for jobs on television, landing a couple of small parts in shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent However, she was stricken by homelessness and brought her back to California in search of theater work. Her mother and she starred on Broadway together as part of The Other Place, in 2013. In 2015, she starred alongside her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Anna Christie on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry played a role in 9 episodes of the ABC drama The Family in 2016. In 2017, she had her own recurring part on The ABC political thriller Scandal featuring her father. This year, she was cast as a younger version of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again playing a young version of her mother's role. Despite having a family connection to her character, she got the role via an audition.
